Chelsea secured another win in league action on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
Both sides endured a rather nervy opening 45 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but fought out an evenly contested affair.
The likes of Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku hoped to trouble Spurs No.1 Hugo Lloris but could not muster enough firepower when in the final third of the pitch.
Spurs fashioned out a good chance just before the half-time break with Harry Kane going through on goal only for Chelsea’s goalie Kepa to come out bravely and collect the ball from the England international.
Thomas Tuchel brought on the fit-again N’Golo Kante off the bench for the second half and the visitors got off the mark soon after with the goal coming from Thiago Silva.
The veteran Brazilian centre-back headed home a great delivery into the box from Marcos Alonso who once again put in a great shift on both the defensive and attacking front for Chelsea.
Alonso came close to scoring himself but Eric Dier was there to clear the ball off his line only for Chelsea to soon double their lead with Kante the scorer this time around as the Frenchman got the better of his compatriot Hugo Lloris with a lucky strike.
It was the in-form Antonio Rudiger who got on the scoresheet too in the final moments of the game with the Germany international making the most of a good ball into the box from Timo Werner to make it 3-0 for the visitors to North London and secure a pivotal win to go top of the table.
