Newcastle United vs Chelsea: Match Report

Maurizio Sarri continued his 100% win record in his third Premier League game as a manager for Chelsea. It has just been three weeks to the Premier League the game between Chelsea and Newcastle looked like it already had been half-way through the premier league with the gears being clunked, the sense of drama and excitement had it’s grip with the emergence of new title contenders Chelsea. Though the team of Tyneside tried to suffocate the Blues with their five man defence, the Blues somehow managed to clinch three crucial points.

The scoring started when it seemed like both the teams had to satisfy with a point each before a controversial spot kick was awarded to Chelsea when Fabian Schar was judged to have taken down Alonso, though he had got the ball first. Eden Hazard got the opportunity to open his scoring of this season and made the most of it. The Belgian was given his first start of the season and was unsuccessful in getting through the blanket defence of Newcastle even with his dancing shoes.

Chelsea had to be patient in their endeavor with Newcastle not leaving their half and completing only 67 passes in the first half which were 20 less than passes made by Jorginho. It was clear that Newcastle came out with a defensive strategy and Chelsea had to play the ball fast and through the defence in order to score.Chelsea did score the goal in 76th minute but it was not late before Newcastle drew the scoring when Joselu darted in the ball with his head in front of the Brazilian defender Luiz from Yedlin’s cross. Newcastle did rarely have a chance to score because of their defensive strategy and the attacking endeavor being substituted with almost 9 players of the team playing back, but they did score in a chance they got and when it seemed like the match is going to be tied between the two, Chelsea’s fate had other things in mind.

Chelsea had their second goal, a lucky one when Marcus Alonso’s untimed kick took a soft deflection of the defender of Newcastle and went into the post.

The tactic that seemed to be working for Newcastle the whole game went in vain minutes before the whistle.

Hard luck Newcastle!
