Romelu Lukaku breaks his silence on his Inter Milan exit this summer

Chelsea’s new recruit Romelu Lukaku has broken his silence on his Inter Milan exit this summer with the Belgian returning to Stamford Bridge in a mega-money move.

Thomas Tuchel had been after a new forward for his side all summer and on the back of repeated failures to land his priority target Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, Lukaku came into the picture for the Chelsea manager.

The Belgian, who had once starred for Chelsea before leaving the Bridge for Everton, had made his name as one of the top talents in the Serie A with Inter Milan during the title-winning campaign last season for the Italians.

Reports from Sky Sports have quoted Lukaku in a recent interview in which the 28-year-old star striker explains his motive to leave Inter Milan in this summer’s transfer window for a return to the Chelsea shirt.

Lukaku revealed that he had decided on staging an exit from the Serie A bigwigs only if an offer came from Chelsea with the player happy to turn out for Inter after his rut while at Old Trafford with Manchester United.

“I was only going to leave Inter Milan for Chelsea.”

“Kids love Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United. And Chelsea for me, everyone knows what Chelsea means to me.

“If they ask me, why would I say no? I only realised that Chelsea was serious at the third offer. So it was €100m (£85m), then it was €105m (£90m), and then it went to €110m (£94m). Then I knew, this is truly serious.

“I was in a deep hole at Man United. I didn’t want to go behind Inter’s back.
