Chelsea could be in the market for a new midfield player before deadline-day

Thomas Tuchel could be further set to bolster his first-team options at Stamford Bridge with the Chelsea boss keen to add to his existing names in the centre of the park.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Chelsea are looking to bring in a fresh face for the midfield department and a decision will be taken in the next few days over the possibility of signing a new midfielder.

Atletico Madrid’s wantaway first-team outcast Saul Niguez is being backed to be one of the names shortlisted by the Blues with the Spain international expected to leave the La Liga champions before the transfer window’s deadline later this month.

Chelsea added to their squad strength last week by announcing the return of Romelu Lukaku in a big-money move from Inter Milan and Thomas Tuchel is tipped to build upon that signing by making some more moves in the transfer market this summer.

The west London giants have not brought in reinforcements for their midfield despite shipping out the highly-promising Billy Gilmour off to the league’s new boys Norwich City and nearing the loan departure of Tiémoué Bakayoko to AC Milan.
