It is Crystal Palace who are the opening day opponents for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea with the Eagles making the visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday as the Premier League campaign gets underway.
Tuchel’s men will be backed to take the win from their home outing against a Palace outfit which is now under the charge of an Arsenal icon in Patrick Vieira.
Let us now have a look at how Thomas Tuchel might set up his Chelsea side against the Eagles on Saturday –
3-4-2-1
Tuchel is likely to call upon Edouard Mendy to fill the sticks for Chelsea with the Senegal shot-stopper now an established regular on the Chelsea team sheet.
The three-man backline for the hosts should be comprised of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta with Chelsea still pushing for a deal to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
N’Golo Kante and the high-flying Euros-winning Jorginho will be drafted in their usual roles in the centre of the park with Ben Chilwell and Reece James expected to take the wing-back spots out wide on the pitch.
Timo Werner is unlikely to get the nod to lead the line for Chelsea with Tuchel expected to turn to Kai Havertz for the same and Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic to occupy the wide roles.
