Sassuolo are keen on retaining Domenico Berardi beyond this summer’s transfer window, according to the club’s CEO Giovanni Carnevali, meaning Chelsea will have to look elsewhere for alternative names to sign.
The Blues had been credited with a strong interest in making a move for the Italian forward player who was a star turn for his country at this summer’s UEFA European Championships where The Azzuri were cronwed the winners with a win over England in the final.
Berardi’s showings for Roberto Mancini’s men had not gone unnoticed and after his heroics for Sassuolo in the Serie A across the 2020-2021 campaign with 17 goals to his name, there was speculation that the player will seek a move to the Premier League.
Besides Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool too had considered making an approach for the 26-year-old winger with the Reds gaffer keen on improving his options in the attacking department before the upcoming season gets underway.
Reports from The Express, however, claim that Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali’s recent remarks have indicated that the Serie A outfit are not interested in entertaining any offers this summer for Berardi who is Sassuolo’s star figure in the frontline.
“Caputo, Boga, Berardi and Locatelli won’t be sold. We’ve received lots of offers for them, but we’ve rejected all of them,” he said.
“We won’t give up our best players because we have an ambitious project with De Zerbi, with Berardi being the leader of this team.”
