Arsenal have emerged as the shock frontrunners in the widely-contested race to land the signature of Chelsea’s out-of-favour forward player Tammy Abraham this summer, according to reports from The Sun.
The Gunners are now in pole position to sign Abraham on an initial loan agreement with the obligation to buy the player on a permanent basis which will mean Chelsea pocketing a fee worth £40 million.
Abraham has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge ahead of the start of the next season with the England international finding himself down the pecking order since Thomas Tuchel took over earlier this year from Frank Lampard.
With the new Chelsea boss scouting the transfer market this summer for a new striker himself, the 23-year-old Abraham is not expected to have a long-term future in the Blues shirt and the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have been alerted to his situation.
However, it is Arsenal who now look the likely candidates for Abraham’s next destination with Mikel Arteta keen on adding to his options up top on the pitch and Abraham claimed to be keen on staying put in London should he stage an exit from Chelsea this summer.
