The Hammers are now ahead of a hesitant Aston Villa outfit in the race for Chelsea’s England international Tammy Abraham who has been rumoured to seek an exit from the west Londoners this summer.
Aston Villa were previously understood to be leading the chase for the forward but have now been displaced by David Moyes’ West Ham United, according to reports from Football Insider.
Villa boss Dean Smith unconvinced over signing Abraham
It is reported that Aston Villa gaffer Dean Smith despite having managed Abraham previously at Villa Park two seasons ago remains unconvinced over the player’s cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.
Smith’s decision to stall a possible approach for the Chelsea man has allowed West Ham United to emerge as the frontrunners for the striker in spite of the club’s pricing concerns over signing Abraham.
Chelsea to lose another forward player after Giroud’s exit
Thomas Tuchel has already shipped out the veteran Frenchman Olivier Giroud who joins AC Milan on a permanent deal and should Abraham also depart Stamford Bridge this summer, the Chelsea boss will be looking to use the market to bring in a fresh face.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is Tuchel’s top target for the transfer window but the German club are not willing to part ways with their talisman heading into the new season.
