Tottenham Hotspur to rival Chelsea for Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix

Chelsea are set to face a challenge from city rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix with the player courted aggressively by some of the biggest clubs across Europe.

Lacroix was a standout performer at the back for his side last season in the Bundesliga which has made Spurs take note of his talent as they remain on the lookout for defensive reinforcements in this summer’s transfer window, according to reports from The Express.

The Blues had been credited with an interest in the young defender who joined Wolfsburg only last summer from fellow German outfit Schalke but looks imminent to move to a new destination ahead of the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

Thomas Tuchel’s priority remains on finding a new star striker for his side this summer but with Fikayoko Tomori’s departure and no clarity on the long-term future of Antonio Rudiger, the Chelsea boss might dip into the transfer market for a new central defender to shore up his backline options.
