Jorginho plays down Ballon d’Or claims amid speculation linking him for the accolade

Chelsea’s midfield general Jorginho has downplayed the recent talk that he could be in line to secure a nomination for the much-coveted Ballon d’Or honour this year.

Jorginho was pivotal towards Chelsea’s superb turnaround under their new boss Thomas Tuchel who led the Blues to Champions League glory with a memorable win over Manchester City in the final held in Porto.

Moreover, the midfield man has been an influential presence in the centre of the park for Roberto Mancini’s Italians at the ongoing UEFA European Championships where Italy are yet to lose a single game and are through to the last eight of the competition.

Speculation has gained ground that in light of the former Napoli man becoming a force to reckon with in world football with his showings over these past six months, a Ballon d’Or surprise could be coming his way.

However, this is something that was played down by the player who has asserted his focus remains not on individual glory but rather on his team’s success as a whole.

“I don’t think about it,” he said as quoted by football.london.

“My priority is the group and celebrating together with my teammates and friends. This is more beautiful than celebrating alone.”
