Chelsea’s interest in Juventus defender Mattijs de Ligt dismissed by the Italian giants

The Blues have been handed a major setback in their attempts to make an approach for Juventus’ defensive prodigy Mattijs de Ligt with the Serie A side rejecting to part ways with the centre-back in the summer window.

Chelsea are keeping tabs on a number of options in the transfer market with the new boss Thomas Tuchel keen on bringing a new face at the Bridge to replace Thiago Silva whose future beyond the summer remains doubtful.

De Ligt has been a star performer at the back for club and country over the past couple of years and at just 21 years of age has established first-team regular credentials for a Juventus side that has severely unperformed across this campaign.

Reports from Tuttosport claim that Chelsea’s interest in a move for the Holland international central defender has been turned down by the Italian giants who are looking to keep hold of De Ligt heading into the new season.

It remains to be seen whether these series of events convinces Tuchel to look elsewhere for adding reinforcements to his side with Chelsea also missing out on RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate who looks all set to sign for Premier League rivals Liverpool ahead of the summer.
