Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule is of interest to Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel who remains on the hunt to shore up his defensive options in this summer’s transfer window.
Reports from The Athletic claim that the German international is being courted by the Blues with Tuchel keen to sign Sule as Kurt Zouma’s future at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer looks uncertain.
Sule’s uncertain future in the Bayern colours could help Chelsea
The 25-year-old defender is himself staring hard at an uncertain life in the Bayern Munich shirt with the Bundesliga giants having brought in RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano ahead of the summer window despite concrete interest in the Frenchman from Chelsea themselves.
Upamecano’s arrival could further distance Sule from first-team involvement which had become curtailed in recent times since Lucas Hernandez was given a more prominent role in the Allianz Arena setup.
Such a turn of events are bound to help Chelsea in the chase for Sule heading into the start of the new campaign as the player’s current deal with Bayern runs only for another year.
Kurt Zouma’s exit likely amid Sule speculation
One player who is in line to make way for Sule’s arrival in west London is Kurt Zouma who had been a first-team regular for the Blues when Frank Lampard was in charge.
However, since Tuchel took over the reins at Stamford Bridge, the France international has seen himself fall down the pecking order with Antonio Rudiger and Andres Christensen taking on the more extended role on the teamsheet.
