Chelsea are readying an offer for soon to be out of contract AC Milan first-team regular Hakan Calhanoglu with the Turkey international looking highly unlikely to extend his stay at the San Siro beyond this summer.
Reports from Sky Sport Italy claim that the Blues chief Marina Granovskaia has emerged as a keen participant in the widely-contested race to land the Milan playmaker who has been an influential presence for the Serie A giants over the course of the ongoing campaign.
Chelsea to face tough battle as the race to sign Calhanoglu heats up
The west Londoners are not the only English side wanting to make the move for the AC Milan star with city rivals Arsenal also eager to bolster their options in the final third of the pitch.
Moreover, interest has also been shown in the 27-year-old Turk by Italian side Juventus who are on the hunt for additional reinforcements after a disappointing run of form under new boss Andre Pirlo, a hunt which has taken them to Stamford Bridge as well with Jorginho being a key target for the Turin-based outfit.
Salary demands could force Calhanoglu’s exit as the Blues enter the fray
Calhanoglu is holding out for a major wage bump in the region of a £4.2 million payout annually but with AC Milan’s persistence of sticking to their £3.3 million offer, the player would seek an exit from the club upon his contract coming to a close.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues remain right in the mix to make a move for the in-demand attacking midfielder as the recently hired Chelsea gaffer aims to make a major overhaul of his first-team ranks.
