Tammy Abraham could be sidelined for an extended time period as Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed in his post-match remarks following Sunday’s FA Cup showdown that the England international had sustained a fresh injury blow.
Abraham had been absent from the Blues ranks of late due to an ankle problem and upon his recent return to team training, reports claim that that forward suffered a recurrence which could sideline him further heading into the close of this campaign.
Thomas Tuchel’s side came out victors over Sheffield United in the weekend clash at Stamford Bridge and despite rumours suggesting he would be a part of the matchday squad, Abraham was nowhere to be seen as his side booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
The newly appointed Blues manager, who is enjoying a superb start to life in west London, detailed the situation of Abraham’s injury in his post-game comments as Tuchel said the Englishman had to withdraw himself just five minutes into his return to training following a relapse of his existing niggle.
“He quit training yesterday after only five minutes, during the warm-up. so there was no chance that he could join the squad. It is still more or less the same injury.”
“The way back for him then is to maybe be a substitute and to be hungry to show quality in training. Now is not the moment to worry about being in the first 11 because he is out now unfortunately for too many games, and it is absolutely not his fault.”
