Chelsea No.1 Edouard Mendy came under high praise from his boss Thomas Tuchel in the aftermath of the west Londoners salvaging a draw from their visit to Elland Road on Saturday.
Mendy was arguably his side’s best performer of the evening in South Yorkshire as the Senegalese made a number of fine saves to keep the Blues in the contest and ultimately settle for a point against a tough-looking Leeds United outfit.
Speaking to reporters in his post-game interview, Chelsea gaffer Tuchel was all praises for the defensive showing put out by his players and the German added extra plaudits for Mendy’s coming into action with a couple of defining saves.
“I was very happy with the clean sheet and it was a combination of good goalkeeping and good defending. I thought we could always be in danger because of the pitch, it was difficult to play on and very slippery with a lot of bounces.
“But we were there to block everything and Mendy was there to save us on a couple of occasions with good saves. It was a good performance from Edou and he gives us confidence.
“We are happy with the clean sheet but the boys are disappointed in the dressing room that we didn’t a win, which is a good sign to see from my players.”
It was a tough outing for Chelsea over the weekend as an under-fire Leeds United looked set to snatch an unlikeliest of wins against an outfit that remains unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel’s charge.
Saturday’s stalemate meant that Tuchel was unbeaten in his first ten top-flight fixtures since taking over the managerial reigns at Stamford Bridge.
