Kai Havertz was singled out for praise by his coach Thomas Tuchel in the aftermath of the German international putting in a solid showing for the Blues on Monday evening at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea secured a vital win against the Toffees in what could prove to be pivotal towards their chances of ensuring a top-four finish this season in the top-flight standings and Havertz had a huge role to play in his side registering the 2-0 triumph over fellow Champions League chasers Everton.
The 21-year-old attacker ensured Tuchel kept his eight-game-long unbeaten run in domestic football by forcing Everton defender Ben Godfrey to put the ball into his own net before winning a crucial penalty for the hosts, which was duly converted by Jorginho to put the match to bed in favour of the west Londoners.
Tuchel was lavish in his applause for Havertz in the former’s post-game interview and the Chelsea coach admitted that the former Leverkusen man had made the most of the opportunity presented to him by putting in a tremendous shift.
“I was very pleased with Kai. We showed a lot of trust in him and he used his opportunity tonight very well.”
“He fulfilled his role, was very fluid and put in an excellent performance. There is no doubt about his quality, his talent and also his character.
“He needs to adapt to the Premier League and a new club where you play to win every game and the highest standards are normal but he did that excellently today.”
