Danny Drinkwater, midfielder of Chelsea has reportedly delivered a verdict on the decision of Frank Lampard getting sacked. He responded on social media after the official announcement of Lampard being removed from the managerial position at Chelsea.
Lampard has been relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge less than 24 hours after their 3-1 FA Cup fourth round victory over Luton Town. The owner Roman Abramovich himself announced the decision with a heavy heart off being apart from the 33years old manager this morning.
There had been a hush inside the Chelsea squad too as many awaited official confirmation of Lampard’s dismissal as the head coach. However, Drinkwater is the exception.
Drinkwater is on loan at Kasimpasa for the rest of the season currently. He was not the part of first-team for Chelsea for more than two years now and is out of contract at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
With that said, Drinkwater’s social media activity appeared to have indicated his feelings ridiculing Lampard’s immediate exit from Stamford Bridge with a picture of celebration. But he clarified again saying he was unaware of the news and he admires Lampard for the player he is.
“Thought that was a bit of a strange reaction,” he wrote as per football.london reports.
“Didn’t hear about the news before I posted that. I was just missing playing.”
“The manager was somebody I looked up to hugely as a player.”
As the report suggested, Thomas Tuchel is set to be named the new Chelsea head coach in the next 24 hours after talks with the club’s board over the weekend.
Tuchel’s likely appointment is being made with the form of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in mind, while he has previously coached Thiago Silva at PSG.
