The rumors came true as Chelsea finally bid goodbye to the current manager, Frank Lampard. Having a great carrier with Chelsea both as a manager and a legend, Lampard experienced enough ups and downs in his one and half year spell with the club. Thomas Tuchel is speculated to be the next manager of the Blues to replace Frank Lampard.
Chelsea sacked Lampard after the service of 18 months which he offered as a manager to the team. While in these 18 months Lampard achieved a lot but the team’s performance in the premier league lately has played a crucial role in compelling Roman Abramovich to take a harsh decision.
The club’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich said as per the Official Chelsea Website:
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.
“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”
Even a 3-1 win against Championship side Luton in FA Cup was not enough to save Lampard’s job. Chelsea said it had been a “very difficult decision” to part ways with the 42-year-old Lampard, who joined the club in July 2019 replacing Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea has lost five of their past eight Premier League matches after a good start to the season, leaving the club in the ninth position 11 points below the tabletop Manchester United.
Lampard signed a three-year deal with Chelsea in July 2019 and led the team to the FA Cup final and a fourth-place finish in his first managerial campaign at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea signed big names but Lamaprd’s failure to use them played another major factor in his potential exit.
Former PSG boss Thomas Tuchel is a very strong contender and many sources even report his agreement with the club officials. Tuchel only became available a month ago when he left PSG, less than five months after taking them to the Champions League final.
