Chelsea’s left-back, Ben Chilwell reflected on the performance on the individual level as well as collectively in their 1-1 draw versus Aston Villa On Monday at Stamford Bridge.
Chilwell was one of the few Chelsea players who came score to scoring. It felt like Chelsea had managed to get their hands on the three points when he struck the volley. But the ball went just near about kissing the far post so the score against Aston Villa didn’t change.
Although they didn’t earn three points, Chilwell expressed about Frank Lampard pleased with the attitude of the players and thought that they deserved to win. It was a much-improved mentality than what they had in the Arsenal game at the Emirates Stadium.
‘He is more pleased than he was the other day,’ said Chilwell as per the Officia Chelsea website.
‘It is a draw at home and we want to be winning these games but the effort and the performance was a lot better in this game. The mentality was the main thing we wanted from it, that was better.
‘I know it is disappointing we have drawn the game but we have to look at the positives, which is 48 hours later after a pretty poor performance we have played well and shown good character.’
The new summer signing full-back although couldn’t get the winner, expressed his love to get upfront and contribute in attack whenever possible.
Chelsea’s only goal came from Olivier Giroud and the assist was provided by him and in doing so, he equaled the best stats of his career for a season. He has currently four assists and has netted two goals.
‘I know the way we want to play at Chelsea is with the full-backs joining in. I have that license that when I do go forward I know the midfielders are going to cover me. I do like to get forward but the priority is obviously defending, but when I have the opportunity to go forward I do.’
‘It was the last minute of the game, Callum put a lovely ball in so I thought I might as well just hit it and I could not have hit it any better,’ he said. ‘At the moment we are not quite getting the rub of the green, maybe on another day that goes in, but we will keep working hard and try to put things right,’ he added.
Chelsea is going through a tough time lately after their series of unbeaten streak and records, but he is confident that the Blues will again come back to the winning ways very soon.
