Chelsea’s coach, Frank Lampard expects that the success of British managers in the Premier League will encourage a lot more homegrown coaches to rise and take chances in the future.
Sam Allardyce is the latest manager to become the coach of West Brom earlier this week and he becomes the 11th British head coach in the process. This is considerably a huge increase in the numeric figure of top-flight managers from England. There were only five British coaches in the Premier League two years back but now things have changed.
On speaking with Frank Lampard- who himself is the manager of Chelsea, says that the coming back of Allardyce and Moyes to English football will help the players who are on verge of retiring to get inspired to become one.
Lampard’s appointment was quite of a surprise back in 2019 and he has proved to everyone by doing a pretty good job with Chelsea. He faced David Moyes in his lats game and defeated him 3-0 as Chelsea climbed up the league table to the fifth position.
“In the modern world, I don’t think it matters where you’re from,” said Lampard as per Goal reports.
“But it is nice that this is the Premier League here in England and we are seeing some British managers coming through and doing very well.
“I know there will be a lot of hard work behind that. And if that can inspire younger managers or players who want to try to become managers, that is a great thing. Sam Allardyce and David Moyes have been doing well for years.”
Lampard exclaimed that the origin doesn’t matter to become a coach as long as the coach is delivering. He also talked about West Ham and David Moyes.
“The clubs he’s managed are top clubs. What he’s doing at West Ham is the job of a top manager. The observations of others who think he needs to redeem himself don’t matter. I don’t see it that way. There’s nothing for him to redeem,” added Lampard.
West Ham is currently in the 10th position but nobody expected performances from them at the very beginning of the season. Lampard believes there’s’ a long way to go and anything can happen in this competitive league.
