Chelsea’s legendary icon, Joe Cole has requested that the coach must drop their striker Timo Werner as the German is misfiring in quite many matches until now.
The German striker’s form was frustrating to watch as Chelsea lost to Wolves 2-1 on Tuesday. Werner could not show any attacking threat and now he has not a single gaol in nine consecutive matches for both his club and country. Although his current form is questioned, his ability isn’t as everyone knows how he delivers.
The Blues has a surplus of attackers upfront so benching Werner for a while won’t be a problem. Moreover, Olivier Giroud is in fine form as well as he gave th related to Chelsea at the Molineux.
Werner joined the Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig with a £47.5 million transfer deal of five years. His joining wasn’t easy as he garnered the interests of top clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid but the Blues landed him out of all.
Cole believes that giving rest o Werner will bring the best out of him .
“I think Werner, when he comes in off that left (side), he’s very, very dangerous,” he said as a pundit speaking on Amazon prime Video (h/t Metro).
“I just think he just needs to brush up on his finishing, but he’s a young striker and he will do that. I’ve got no doubts he’ll be a top player for Chelsea but there’s options now and he [Lampard] needs to move it around.
“[Hakim] Ziyech and [Callum] Hudson-Odoi to come back in, freshen it up at some point. Take Werner out, bring him back in.
“It’s a marathon to win a title usually, and certainly this year. You’ve got to use your whole squad. So Werner maybe come out, bring the other lads back in.”
Cole also thinks that Werner needs to improve his finishing skills. He is of the opinion that Werner is always present at the right place and the right moment but his lack of finishing has let him down on numerous occasions. Cole thinks that if he improves finishing, he will turn out to be very lethal.
Dropping Werner won’t be monumental as Hudson Odoi and Ziyech is yet to return to the squad following their injury. Cole believes that once he finds the form, he will rule the Premier League.
