Chelsea remained unbeaten in their final group stage game of the Champions league against Krasnodar that ended in a 1-1 draw despite making 10 changes to the team that played against Leeds United.
The young German was the only player who started for the Blues against Leeds in the previous match. He spoke about the inactivity he had due to the COVID virus as well after the game but addressed the game first of all.
‘We can be happy. It was a draw but we played a good match. We had a lot of changes in the team, a lot of new players in the team, so of course, it was difficult for us but I think we played our best and we did a good game,’ said Havertz as per Chelsea’s official website.
‘We know we created a lot of chances but we have to score the goals but we didn’t do that. We have to practice for that of course.’
It was Jorginho from the penalty spot who leveled up Krasnodar’s opener in the first half but apart from that, the headlines were made by Billy Gilmour’s man-of-the-match performance on his first start after knee surgery.‘We all know that Billy is a very talented player with a lot of qualities,’ praised Havertz.
‘He is still very young like me but in the Champions League he played very well and we are all very happy with him. He has a big future ahead of him.’
It was Jorginho from the penalty spot who levelled up Krasnodar’s opener in the first half of the match. But apart from that, the spotlight was on the Scottish youngster, Billy Gilmour.
He returned after his knee injury setback that he got at a time when he was in a beast mode, delivering a back-to-back man of the match awards at such a tender age. Gilmour started the game for the first time in this campaign and again came up with a man-of-the-match performance against Krasnodar.
‘We all know that Billy is a very talented player with a lot of qualities,’ praised Havertz.
‘He is still very young like me but in the Champions League he played very well and we are all very happy with him. He has a big future ahead of him.’
Chelsea will face Everton and it is a big test for Lampard. It is to be seen if Gilmour gets the chance in the game or the coach goes with the same old Werner and Tammy Abraham.
