Chelsea’s rotation saw them leave frustrating in front of their own fans as the Krasnodar game ended in a 1-1 draw in the Champions League final group stage game.
Frank Lampard’s side already confirmed their top spot in Group E by beating Sevilla 4-0 and the coach took chance to give an opportunity to the others while some much deserved rest to the first team players. Kai Havertz was the only player who was kept in the starting XI from the 3-1 victory against Leeds United.
In just 24 minutes of the game, former Newcastle midfielder Remy Cabella of Krasnodar gave the Russian side a 1-0 lead. The Blues responded immediately when Kovacic found Tammy Abraham in the box and he was fouled. Jorginho converted the penalty in absence of Timo Werner.
The second half was rather frustrating as both sides continued to find some opportunity to score goals. Kai Havertz continued to look very sharp as he threatened with his movement. His no-look volleyed pass to Cesar Azpilicueta was dazzling to watch.
Chelsea finished a point above Sevilla in their group as Julen Lopetegui’s men beat Rennes 3-1. Krasnodar guaranteed a Europa League spot with their draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Although the Blues didn’t finish the group with a victory, fans will be pleased to see their team extending their unbeaten run to 17 matches this campaign.
