Chelsea’s 4-0 victory against Sevilla last week in the Champions League group stage match secured the top spot in Group E with a game to spare which saw Lampard putting fringe players against Leeds.
It was Lampard’s old players who scored the goals for the team to give a comeback 3-1 win in Stamford Bridge and take Chelsea temporarily to the top spot.
The next match in Champions League will force Lampard to make changes as Hakim Ziyech injured his hamstring against Leeds and had to be taken off in just 30 minutes of the match.
Lampard took the press-conference today to give an update on injuries in the squad. He mentioned how Hakim is suffering from injuries since the start of the season and a recent injury means he will again struggle to recover. He was firing from all cylinders lately and his injury is truly a concern for the club.
‘He came to us at the back-end of last season and trained a lot. The injury [in pre-season] was disappointing and he missed some weeks, but straightaway he showed his intensity to work in the gym and on the training pitches as soon as he was back, and that was why he hit the ground running when he came into the team.’
‘I hope this is a minor injury. The feeling he had since the game is that it doesn’t feel too bad, which I’m hoping means we’ll be talking a couple of weeks, but we will wait for the scan.
‘I’m not worried too much, he’s a fit lad, and he’s shown he will be an important player for us,’ said Lampard as per Chelsea’s official website.
The Chelsea coach also informed that Callum Hudson Odoi is out for the next game as he too has picked up a hamstring injury.
‘Hakim Ziyech is going for a scan this afternoon so I will have more information on his hamstring injury tomorrow,’ said Lampard after the Moroccan limped off against Leeds.
‘He’s out.‘Callum Hudson-Odoi is also out. He had a hamstring problem in training yesterday too.’
Chelsea will face Krasnodar in their following game on Wednesday night in their last group stage game this season. Chelsea will try to keep their momentum of winning going.
