Olivier Giroud collected the match ball after Chelsea defeated Sevilla 4-0 in the Champions League. In no meantime, he was surrounded with questions relating to the future at the club and what he desires after showing the club his capabilities.
The 34 years old French striker has netted 44 goals for his country- seven short of record-holder, Thierry Henry and the club knows how much of an experience he adds to the team full of youngsters. He has recently exclaimed about staying in the club and giving his 1005 to fight for the position.
Giroud has been in a situation where he wants to get out. He is down the pecking order despite playing brilliantly in the last campaign. Lampard has favoured Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner, time and time again over him this season and due to lack of minutes, he is considering moving away from the club.
‘I just have to show the manager that I am ready to fight until the end, as I told him at the beginning of the season, but obviously to be happy I need to be a little bit more on the pitch,’ Giroud said as per the Chelsea Official website.
‘The gaffer gave me the opportunity to play and I hope I will have more opportunities again because I think I’ve shown him that I am ready to fight for the team. We all want to be on the pitch but we have a great squad.’
The veteran striker has shown great professionalism despite all these and has kept him under hard training to perform whenever the team needs him.
‘If I play a bit more than in the beginning of the season, I have a good chance to be fit and ready for the Euros,’ he added.
‘I had a conversation with Deschamps and he said if the situation stayed like that, I will have to take a decision in January. I am pretty sure I can get some more game time and stay at Chelsea because that is what I want. I want to win trophies with Chelsea so basically that’s it.
‘You never know in football, everything is going very fast, but right now I am very happy. I am a happy man and I am proud to be a Chelsea player,’ he added.
There was a strong possibility of taking an exit from the club last year but he stayed and also played an instrumental part for the squad in qualifying for the Champions League.
It is again to be seen what decision he takes and if he risks his position in the France squad by staying in Chelsea. Giroud still believes that he will get more game time under Lampard and that he will win many more titles with Chelsea.
