Chelsea’s former keeper, Asmir Begovic is of the opinion that Blue’s No.1 keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga still can prove everyone wrong at Stamford Bridge. Begovic claims that the talent he possesses is known to everyone and it will be only a matter of time before he starts producing amazing displays again as he did in Spain.
The Chelsea board hoped that the expensive 26 years old goalkeeper would help the club benefit from his form and talent but that hasn’t been the case as he has struggled too much under Chelsea’s current coach, Frank Lampard.
Mendy’s arrival has made Kepa go down the pecking order and the recent back to back clean sheets has even made the Spaniard’s future uncertain. Begovic says that things look grim for Kepa but is sure that Kepa will silence all his critics someday even if he does not stay in this club.
The former Blues keeper told talkSPORT: “I don’t think it’s gone to plan for everyone.
“These situations are never straightforward. If you spend a big transfer fee it doesn’t mean everything is going to work out; there are a lot of factors into making a moving work and making an impact at a club.
“Mendy has come in and done really, really well, I think he’s really solidified that position. He’s been impressive, he’s been a joy to watch to be honest and he’s someone I really enjoy watching.
“But can Kepa still prove everybody wrong? Possibly.
“I think Kepa is a really good goalkeeper, he played really well in Spain before his move to Chelsea and it’s obviously been a bit of a tricky time for him. He’s got really good quality and I’m sure he’ll be a huge success, whether it’s at Chelsea or somewhere else.
“When you have that quality it’s only going to be matter of time before things turn around for him again in a positive way.”
A record-breaking deal of £71 million made Kepa’s move to the England club possible in 2018 as he was attracted by the Chelsea hierarchies due to his tremendous form.
Unfortunately, this expensive gamble backfired for the Premier League giants as he was nowhere near his superb form he showed in Spain and became Chelsea’s error-prone keeper. The coach and the fans became frustrated with his inconsistency and brought in Edouard Mendy in this summer transfer window from Rennes and this purchase has changed Chelsea’s recent form completely.
Kepa’s career in Blues has seen him playing 98 games as he fell out of favour after Mendy’s arrival and superb from. He has not featured for a single minute since the 17th of October and the situation looks very worse for him.
