Chelsea played against Sheffield United in their home ground, Stamford Bridge and expected to take away three important points. Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard made just one change from their 3-0 victory against Ligue 1 club, Rennes in the UEFA Champions League. Croatian Mateo Kovacic came in for Jorginho and played in the middle of the ground.
The Blues continued their winning streak by beating Sheffield United 4-1 as they went a goal down in just 10 minutes of the match of the Premier League. It was their fourth straight win and nothing could be better after seeing the performances delivered by the attacking players.
The Blades went ahead and took a lead in just the opening 10 minutes as David McGoldrick netted in a shot from his fellow mate, Sander Berge from inside the penalty box which went past the Senegalese goalkeeper of the Blues, Edouard Mendy.
It was the first time that Chelsea’s veteran defender, Thiago Silva scored a goal for the Blues while the Moroccan playmaker, HAkim Ziyech shined in the upfront with some dazzling playmaking skills and two incredible assists.
Mendy conceded for the first time in his five games from a clever flick of David McGoldrick when Sander Berge struck a shot to the goal. The equalizer came from the youngster, Tammy Abraham as he levelled with his weak effort to beat Sheffield’s goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.
Ben Chilwell completed a turn around as he netted a deep cross of Hakim Ziyech at the far post. although, players like Ramsdale and Max Lowe should have kept the ball out but eventually couldn’t.
Ziyech triggered the Chelsea attack as he got out the pitching wedge to find the Croatian, Kovacic on the right of the box. The visitors were caught slightly high, and Kovacic’s cut-back was netted in from just 12 yards by Abraham as the ball bounced into the far corner past their goalkeeper.
Their second was just about to come as it seemed like when the German striker, Timo Werner hit the bar from an acute angle. Chelsea moved through the gears as Ziyech was found short from a corner by Mason Mount. Mount’s wicked ball from deep created havoc when the keeper stayed rather than making an outing to punch it away. This allowed Chilwell to score a free header from a yard.
Chelsea had 71 per cent of possession after the break which showed how they constricted United in the second half. After the two goals, Chelsea kept changing flanks and possession in an attempt to tire their legs. This paid off as they found the net again just 13minutes away from the final whistle.
It was due to Ziyech delivery which served as the catalyst. It was the debut goal from the Brazilian Thiago Silva for Chelsea as he followed the brilliant ball from the free kick in the right-wing.
Werner missed a golden chance too from Ziyech’s brilliant through-ball. Ziyech was lethal in this game. Timo Werner was fortunate enough to score a goal some minutes later of his miss as he smashed the ball beyond Ramsdale. It was due to N’Golo Kante’s tackle that made the ball fell on Werner’s feet.
Ziyech won the Man of the Match award because of his amazing performance and two assists for Chelsea. The Blues looked very sharp and Lampard termed it as their best performance of the season as they go on toward the top of the table of the Premier League.
The victory takes Chelsea to the third spot in the Premier League, just behind the leaders, Liverpool as Sheffield United remained in the bottom half of the table after their loss.
