Chelsea coach hints at a possible change of penalty-kick taker after Jorginho’s latest miss

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has given a hint of a possible penalty kick taker change in his recent interview after beating Krasnodar 4-0 in the Champions League group stage face-off in Russia. Jorginho is the default penalty taker of the team but he may not be the one to take penalties on a constant basis after seeing Timo Werner scoring confidently from the spot-kick.

Lampard’s side won an early penalty in just the 13th minute of the match when the german striker, Werner’s clever movements made Kaio challenge him in the box.

Jorginho came to take the penalty and hopped off to shoot which eventually hit the post and was cleared t safety by the Krasnodar keeper Matvei Safonov.

Chelsea again earned a penalty in the game when American winger, Christian Pulisic’s strike hit the arms of Alyaksandr Martynovich who was inside the penalty box. The referee was quick to call it a penalty and responsibility fell on Timo Werner as Jorginho was subbed off at the 71st minute for Mason Mount.

The German striker scored it easily to give Chelsea a 2 goal lead. The Blues then added two more goals late in the game to make it 4-0. Lampard spoke to the press and expressed about having no problem with Jorginhi’s unique style to take a penalty. Rather he supports shim by saying that an individual can miss one or two after succeeding on so many penalties since the previous seasons.

“Jorginho has had an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalties in his career, particularly at Chelsea,” Lampard said as per Goal news report.

“My feeling is that when you take as many penalties as he does there can be periods when you can miss one or two. I’ve experienced that as a player.

“I’ve no problem at all with his style of taking them because of the success he has had and Timo Werner I know is very capable of taking penalties, as we saw.

“We have other players that can do it so I’ll talk with them afterwards to see how we move forward, but we have good takers at the club.”

It was a crucial win for Chelsea as the win helped them to top the group E with the same points as Sevilla but better in g/d. The Blues will take on Ligue 1 side, Rennes before the International break.
