Chelsea faced Manchester United at Old Trafford where the match ended in a 0-0 draw. The clash between two clubs didn’t meet the hype that was created as the game came into life from both sides after 60 minutes and more around the final extra minutes of the match.
Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic had two decent attempts in the whole match. It was the Reds who got plenty to seal the game if Mendy didn’t put out a superb performance for the Blues. Chelsea has an organized defence lead by the veteran defender and new summer signing, Thiago Silva.
But Lampard was pleased overall except for the incident of Maguire and Azpilciueta which was ruled out to be a penalty. Apart from that he is assured about his attackers soon getting goals from the following match.
‘Where we have conceded more goals than I would have liked in certain games this season, it is important to try to address those problems,’ Lampard says as per Official Chelsea website.
‘Obviously, we are addressing them at the back. I thought we defended the box very well at Old Trafford.
‘Defending for me at this level when you have individual players with good quality is about concentration. Concentration is what defines defending in top players generally. Thiago Silva on Saturday was a great example of a defender who concentrates at every moment of a game, not just to affect things himself but to affect those around him. That was a big plus.
‘The balance is something we will constantly work on. We got in nice areas at certain times.
We didn’t have the usual spark that we have seen from Timo and Kai already, or what Christian can do, but I will take positives in that we defended very well and had at times good control, but did not have the absolute penetration we normally have.’
Chelsea coach is clear that lack of cutting edge in the final third does not mean a major problem for him, especially when his team was banging goals week in and week out and conceding a lot.
Chelsea has started with a mixed performance and display this season and it is the question to the Chelsea boss as to why his team is not in the top five of the league.
