Chelsea managed to keep up the goalless draw against Manchester United and remained winless at Old Trafford through the course of action but there was drama in the game due to one controversial call from the referees.
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy shone bright making a series of fine saves in the game that encompasses a diving block that prevented Marcus Rashford’s shot. The Blues failed to score and got held for the draw by Sevilla as well as a 3-3 Southampton draw and they lost their chance to open their scoresheet and return to winning terms again.
Moreover, it got frustrating and confusing for the Chelsea boss Frank Lampard because his team was refused a penalty. That was the top status of Saturday’s 0-0 Premier League draw at Old Trafford.
Each saves by Edouard Mendy or even the penalty not awarded to Chelsea before half-time was a major setback that Lampard received and that witnessed a close meet at Old Trafford, which became the primary talking points later. The Azpilicueta-Maguire incident displeased Lampard as he expressed his frustration with the referee’s decision.
“I thought it was a clear penalty. I couldn’t see it at the time from where I was standing and those ones are hard calls for the referee. It’s why we brought VAR into the game, but VAR was very quick to dismiss it,” Frank Lampard told reporters as per Chelsea official website.
“They should have taken the time and advised the referee to look at the monitor. If he watches the monitor, he has to give the penalty, so it’s confusing. There’s a frustration because the rules seemed to be moving in the right direction.
“The referees were looking at the monitor a bit more at the start of the season. The person on the pitch should always take first responsibility and that was given back to them with the monitor.”
The captain of the Red’s, Harry Maguire managed to dodge punishment for wrestling the Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta to the ground inside the penalty area which could have resulted in a penalty for Chelsea and secure a win.
