Chelsea’s Thiago Silva opens up on his move to Stamford Bridge and how’s his new life at Chelsea. Silva admits that he needed a change of atmosphere after staying for eight years in Paris Saint Germain.
On asking about the French League, it was quite evident from his interview that there is little competition in that league and all the pressure is on winning the Champions League.
Thiago Silva was the captain of PSG last year and they were near to win the UCL as they lost out in the final 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
It sounds like that pressure in Paris does get to the players, with Chelsea’s new face admitting that he is enjoying a lot here with less pressure comparatively.
“For me, it would have been difficult to do another year with all this pressure to win the Champions’ League. I am changing scenery a bit and I feel a bit more relaxed.
Not to say that there isn’t pressure, pressure is the same. I play for a great team that is looking for titles, ” he said in Get French Football News.
It does suggest that there is immense pressure at PSG which may be unhealthy after a while, but it will be interesting to see if Chelsea is really aiming to win UCL this year or not.
Although this is not at all a surprise because Frank Lampard’s team is currently struggling to be in the top four since the initial phase of the Premier League. It will be very surprising if they progress too far in Europe, but they’ve already proved with a young team that they can be in the top four. Now after a massive squad overhaul, they can even win the title ahead of the like of Manchester City or Liverpool.
Perhaps that lack of pressure could even help the Blues to play the game freely which can unleash their very best in the latter stages.
