Chelsea striker, Timo Werner was called to the Germany squad his Chelsea teammates Kai Havertz and Antonio Rüdiger. But unlike the latter two, the German striker has not yet joined the squad.
As per Goal’s Kerry Hau, the reason is because of flu-like symptoms, which obviously can be potentially serious as COVID-19, or something as general common flu. This is going to be an increasingly common situation as the colder, winter months are gradually arriving in the Northern Hemisphere.
As of now, this has ruled him out of Germany’s face-off with Turkey as confirmed by assistant Manager of Germany, Marcus Sorg, who revealed the news. The striker has undergone a COVID test but the results are yet to be declared leaving both Chelsea and Germany concerned.
“Timo Werner has a slight cold and won’t join up with the team today,” Sorg said at a press conference as per Sky Sports.
Germany still has two games remaining following the friendly clash with Turkey in this international break, against the likes of Ukraine and Switzerland in the Uefa Nations League.
If the tests are not concerning enough, Timo can still opt to play those two games under Joachim Loew as he is an asset for any team. But all these situations depend on the result of the test. If the tests come positive, several players will be quarantined including Werner himself.
