Wales international Ampadu can play both in defense and midfield. He joins up for the 2020-21 campaign at Bramall Lane after returning from a spell at the Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig.
On getting the youngster from Stamford Bridge on loan, the United Manager Chris Wilder thanked the Chelsea management.
“Ethan is an outstanding young player for Chelsea, and we’ve worked really hard to get his signature for the season,” Wilder told United’s website.
“We need to thank Frank Lampard and the people at Chelsea for helping make this happen. We’ve got a good relationship with them and they know we’re going to take good care of him.”
Young Ampadu made his professional debut at just 15-year-old in an EFL Cup and made the move to Stamford Bridge in 2017.
He has made 13 appearances for Wales and three Bundesliga appearances for Champions League semi-finalists Leipzig last season.
